Solar Storm Predictions & Theory

Solar storms are temporary disturbances on the Earth's magnetosphere that are caused by sun flares or coronal holes. It can damage satellites and power grids. If the solar storm is strong enough, it can even cause destruction to microchips. It can destroy everything in a computer and ultimately shut down the modern digital world.

Solar storms are formed when the sun's equator rotates faster than the poles. These speed differences cause the sun's magnetic field to alter. After a while, a large amount of electronic particles will be emitted out the sun.

The Earth's magnetosphere is also becoming weaker and weaker each year due to the rays we emit plus pollution. This makes the planet for vulnerable as we get less protection from the solar flares.

In 1859, a telegraph system in Europe and USA was destroyed by a solar storm but thankfully, humans back then did not depend on electronics as much as we do today. Then in 1989, another solar storm took place that was strong enough to break the Canadian hydro-Quebec power grid and took years to repair.

There is a theory and prophecy that solar storms can change the Earth's climate. The most agreed fact relates to the little ice age between 1645 and 1715, which during that time had little solar activities. However a few years afterward, a sudden increase in solar storms increased and a wave of higher temperature warmed the Earth.

NASA had predicted that a storm, bigger than the one in 1859, will struck Earth in 2012 and early 2013. There are still insufficient amount of scientific information to know what kind of damages the Earth will be impacted by. Some claims the world will end while other suggests everything electronic will have a few months of total blackout. No matter what happens, we are still yet to prepare.
